The third day of the 2017 Hvide Sande PWA World Cup had plenty of potential to produce an excellent day of racing, but unfortunately the seaweed, which wasn’t present yesterday, put a major spanner in the works for racing, which meant that despite the excellent wind conditions on offer no heats were completed.
That means that Lena Erdil (Starboard / Point-7 / AL360) and Matteo Iachino (Starboard / Point-7 / Shamal Sunglasses) continue to lead the event with 3 days to go and the hope is that tomorrow’s more offshore (west-south-west) wind direction will blow away the seaweed and allow the racing to resume.
Jump of the Day
While conditions might not have been suitable for racing they were perfectly fine for freesailing and throughout the day most of the fleet made it on to the water at some point. With the wind in the region of 20-30 knots most of the guys were on 7.8s and the girls and 7.0s, which led to some good old fashioned floaty jumps. Pierre Mortefon (Fanatic / NorthSails / Chopper Fins) wins the award for jump of the day as he clocked up some serious air time.
The sailors will meet again tomorrow at 10am for the skippers’ meeting and the wind shouldn’t be an issue again with 20-25 knots currently forecast, so seaweed depending the racing should resume from 10:30am (GMT+2) onwards.
