Day 4: A double instalment of tow-in as last places in tomorrow’s final are decided

The penultimate day of the 2016 PWA Surf World Cup Podersdorf saw the high pressure continue as crowds in their thousands basked in the wall-to-wall sunshine. while enjoying the tow-in action with a glass of champagne.

During the afternoon and evening the last two qualifying heats for the tow-in were held as 20 sailors battled it out for the remaining 6 places in the final — as well as one lucky loser (the highest fourth place).

In the second qualifying heat Gollito Estredo (Fanatic / North ) MFC) recovered from a slow start to qualify in first place ahead of Yentel Caers (JP / NeilPryde) and Steven Van Broeckhoven (JP / NeilPryde) The Venezuelan dropped his opening move, but after much discussion with the jet ski driver he popped through an immaculate triple funnel to move to the top of the standings.

In the same heat Davy Scheffers (Tabou / GA Sails) was a little unlucky to not automatically qualify for the final after stomping a double burner, but the Dutchman deservedly still makes the final as the lucky fourth placed loser.

Meanwhile, in the evening session Tonky Frans (Patrik / Sailloft Hamburg / AL360) stole the show as the Bonairean earned highest scoring move across the three qualifying heats with an amazing skopu. Also qualifying for the final are Adrien Bosson (Fanatic / North / Maui Ultra Fins) and Antoine Albert (Goya Windsurfing).

The skippers’ meeting for tomorrow will be held at 10am, but it is likely that tow-in will take centre stage again and the final has been scheduled for 3pm — followed by the official prize giving.
